Why Aren't WooCommerce Product Reviews Showing?

How WooCommerce Enables Reviews

WooCommerce layers review settings at the store level and the individual product level, meaning a product can have reviews disabled even when the store-wide setting allows them, or vice versa depending on when the product was created relative to any settings change. This flexibility is useful (some products might genuinely not want reviews) but is also a common source of confusion when reviews unexpectedly don't appear.

Common Causes of Hidden Reviews

  • Store-wide reviews disabled under WooCommerce → Settings → Products, which would hide reviews across the entire catalog regardless of individual product settings.
  • The specific product's own comment/review setting disabled, found in the product editor's Discussion panel (sometimes hidden by default and needing to be enabled via Screen Options).
  • Existing reviews stuck in a pending moderation status, not yet approved and therefore not publicly visible, worth checking under Comments in the admin.
  • A theme not properly rendering the reviews tab, particularly after a theme change, if the new theme's product page template handles the reviews section differently or omits it.
  • A caching issue serving a stale product page from before reviews were enabled or submitted.

How to Diagnose and Fix It

  1. Confirm the store-wide review setting is enabled first.
  2. Check the specific product's own Discussion setting.
  3. Check for pending, unapproved reviews under Comments in admin.
  4. Clear caching and test on a default theme temporarily if a theme-specific issue is suspected.

Working through the layers

  1. Store-wide setting first. Check that product reviews are enabled in WooCommerce's settings, since that overrides everything below it.
  2. Then the individual product. In the product editor, open the Discussion panel (enable it from Screen Options if it's missing) and confirm reviews are allowed. A product created while reviews were off can keep that setting.
  3. Look at moderation. Under Comments in the admin, check whether reviews are waiting for approval. Reviews sitting in Pending aren't visible to the public.
  4. Check the theme. A product page template that leaves out the reviews tab shows no reviews even when they exist and are approved. Test with a default theme on staging to rule this out.

If reviews appear but the rating doesn't

Star ratings show only for reviews that include a rating and are approved. A comment left without a star selection counts as a comment, not a rating. If ratings look wrong, check that the rating field is enabled and, where you want it, required.
