WooCommerce broke. Let’s fix it before it costs you more sales.

Checkout errors, payment gateway failures, shipping and stock miscalculations diagnosed and fixed, tested with real transactions before I call it done.

THE PROBLEM

Why is my WooCommerce checkout losing orders?

WooCommerce is not one system, it is WordPress plus a payment gateway plus a shipping and tax rule engine, usually with a caching layer sitting on top of all three. Checkout is the one moment every part of that chain has to work correctly at the same time, which is exactly why it is the most common place things quietly break.

WHAT USUALLY CAUSES IT

  • A payment gateway API key, webhook URL or SSL certificate is misconfigured or has expired
  • A caching or speed plugin is caching the cart or checkout page and serving stale session data
  • Two plugins are both hooking into WooCommerce’s checkout process and conflicting
  • Shipping zones, classes or tax rules are configured differently than what you actually intend to charge
  • A WooCommerce, gateway or WordPress core update shipped without your theme or a custom snippet being retested against it
  • Stock, variation or inventory data has fallen out of sync with a connected channel or plugin

SIGNS YOU NEED THIS

The WooCommerce problems that actually lose sales

A broken storefront costs money every hour it stays broken. These are the issues I get called in for most, roughly in order of urgency.

Checkout not completing, or payment errors

Orders failing at the last step are the most expensive bug on any store. Usually a gateway configuration, SSL, or plugin conflict at the point of payment. I test with real transactions, not just the sandbox.

Shipping or tax calculating wrong

Wrong rates, zones not applying, or tax miscalculating at checkout. I audit the rule configuration rather than just resetting it and hoping.

Products, stock or variations not displaying correctly

Variations missing, stock showing available when it is not, or products not appearing in the catalog. Usually a sync, cache, or attribute configuration issue.

Site slows down or crashes under real traffic

A store that works fine in testing but buckles during a sale or a traffic spike. I look at hosting, caching and plugin load together, not just one of them.

SCOPE

What I deliver

  • The payment gateway, plugin or configuration conflict identified before anything changes
  • Checkout tested end to end with real transactions, not just the sandbox
  • Shipping and tax rule audit against what you actually intend to charge
  • Stock and inventory sync checked across variations and channels
  • Tested on staging before anything touches a live store
  • A post-fix monitoring window across a full order cycle
  • A written note on the cause, so it does not repeat on the next update

PROCESS

How a fix runs

  1. Diagnose what’s failing

Which step breaks, for which customers, and since when. A failed order or a screenshot of the error is enough to start.

  2. Check the logs

WooCommerce’s own status logs, the gateway’s transaction log and the PHP error log get read together, since a checkout failure usually leaves a trace in more than one of them.

  3. Identify the root cause

I reproduce the issue on a staging copy or with test transactions, isolating whether it is the gateway, a plugin conflict or a configuration setting, so live orders are never put at risk during diagnosis.

  4. Create a safe backup

A full backup of the store database and files is taken before anything changes, since checkout and payment settings are not somewhere to guess.

  5. Apply the fix

The confirmed cause gets corrected — a gateway setting, a rule, a conflicting hook — on staging first.

  6. Test with real transactions

The fix is tested against actual checkout flows, not just the sandbox, including the specific payment methods your customers use.

  7. Check mobile checkout

Most storefront traffic checks out on a phone, so the cart and checkout flow get tested on mobile specifically, not just confirmed on desktop.

  8. Verify performance and security

SSL, API keys and any exposed endpoints get checked, along with a look at whether the fix added any drag to page load at checkout.

  9. Final quality check and monitoring

Deployed during a safe window with a rollback point taken first, then watched through at least one full order cycle to confirm it holds under real use.

BENEFITS

What you get out of it

Eleven years of WordPress work, a good share of it running and fixing WooCommerce stores, means checkout failures rarely surprise me — I know where gateways, caching plugins and shipping rules tend to collide, because I have hit most of those collisions before.

Fewer lost orders

The exact point where customers were dropping out gets fixed, not patched around.

Tested with real money, not just theory

Every checkout fix is verified with an actual transaction before I call it done.

A store you can trust again

You get a written explanation of what broke, so the next update does not catch you the same way.

FAQ

Questions I get asked

What people ask when a store stops taking orders.

My checkout is losing orders. Can you find out why?

Yes, this is one of the most common jobs I get. I check the gateway configuration, SSL, plugin conflicts and the checkout flow itself, then test with real transactions to confirm the fix actually works.

Do you work with Stripe, PayPal and other gateways?

Yes, and most of the major WooCommerce payment gateways. If you use a less common regional gateway, tell me which one and I will confirm before starting.

Can you fix shipping and tax calculation errors?

Yes. These are usually a rule configuration issue rather than a bug in WooCommerce itself, and I audit the actual rules against what you intend to charge.

Is this covered if my store is about to go into a sale or traffic spike?

Yes, and if you have a specific date coming up, tell me early. Fixing an issue before a major traffic spike is a different priority than fixing it after.

Do you offer ongoing WooCommerce maintenance?

Yes, core, plugin and gateway updates, plus monitoring, on a monthly arrangement. Plenty of store owners bring me in for the initial fix and then handle updates in-house afterward.

What if I don’t know exactly what’s wrong, just that something is off?

That is fine, most people who contact me are in that position. Describe what you have noticed and I will run a proper diagnostic to find the actual cause.

Will fixing this affect my existing orders or customer data?

No — a fix targets the specific broken function, such as a gateway, a shipping rule, or a plugin conflict, not your orders or customer records. I also test on a staging copy first specifically so live order data is never at risk.
