Why Aren't Apple Pay or Google Pay Showing in WooCommerce?
What WooCommerce Requires for Wallet Buttons
Apple Pay and Google Pay are treated very differently from a standard card field by the browser and OS — they require the merchant's domain to be explicitly registered and verified with Apple or Google (usually through the gateway's dashboard, which handles the technical verification file), and they only render at all on a supporting combination of device, browser, and OS with the customer's wallet already set up. None of these requirements produce a visible error when unmet; the button just doesn't appear.
Common Causes of Missing Wallet Buttons
- Domain verification not completed in the gateway's dashboard — this usually involves uploading a specific verification file to the domain root or a designated path, which is easy to miss during initial setup.
- Testing on an unsupported browser or device — Apple Pay only works in Safari (desktop or iOS), and Google Pay requires Chrome or another supporting browser with a saved card, so testing in the "wrong" browser will always show nothing, correctly.
- No card actually saved in the customer's wallet (Apple Wallet or Google Pay) on the testing device — the button won't show at all without at least one eligible card present.
- HTTPS not properly configured, or mixed-content warnings on the checkout page, both of which block wallet payment buttons specifically even when regular card fields still work fine.
- Domain changed (staging to live, or a new domain) without re-verifying, since verification is tied to the specific domain, not the gateway account as a whole.
How to Get the Buttons Showing
- Confirm domain verification is complete and current in the gateway's dashboard for the exact live domain in use.
- Test on an actually supporting browser/device combination with a real card saved in the relevant wallet, rather than assuming a general browser test is representative.
- Check for mixed-content warnings or any HTTPS misconfiguration on the checkout page specifically.
- Re-verify the domain after any domain or subdomain change affecting the checkout page.
