Elementor Nested Carousel vs. Basic Slider
How Nested Carousel Differs
Each slide in a Nested Carousel functions like a small Container, meaning it accepts any widget combination just as a regular page section would, with the widget then handling the sliding/carousel mechanics and navigation around that freely designed content. The basic Slider, by contrast, offers a set of predefined fields per slide (background image, heading, text, button) without the ability to add arbitrary widgets inside a slide.
When to Use Each
- Use the basic Slider for a straightforward image-plus-caption hero banner, where its fixed format already covers what's needed without extra complexity.
- Use Nested Carousel for anything more elaborate — a testimonial carousel with multiple text elements and an avatar image, a product carousel with custom layouts per slide, or any design the basic Slider's fixed fields can't accommodate.
- Nested Carousel generally has a lighter, more modern implementation under the hood compared to the original Slider, in line with Elementor's broader move toward the Container-based "Nested" widget family (also seen in Nested Tabs and Nested Accordion).
Choosing the Right One
- Start with the basic Slider for simple, standard hero-banner-style carousels.
- Switch to Nested Carousel as soon as a slide needs more than the Slider's fixed fields can offer.
- Design each slide's content using the regular visual editor within the Nested Carousel's slide containers.
