What Do Elementor's Motion Effects Do?

How Motion Effects Are Applied

Motion Effects live under an element's Advanced tab and apply purely visually, without affecting the underlying layout or content structure. Scrolling effects tie a transformation to how far the page has been scrolled, entrance animations trigger once when the element first enters the viewport, and mouse-track effects respond continuously to cursor position while it's within or near the element.

Common Motion Effect Types

  • Scrolling effects (vertical/horizontal scroll, transparency, blur, rotate, scale) creating parallax-style movement tied directly to scroll position.
  • Entrance animations, triggering a one-time fade, slide, or zoom effect as the element scrolls into the visible viewport, commonly used to add polish to landing pages.
  • Mouse track effects, subtly shifting an element's position or rotation based on cursor movement, mostly used for decorative visual interest.
  • Sticky positioning, a related Advanced tab setting keeping an element fixed in place as the page scrolls past it, often used for headers or call-to-action sidebars.

Using Motion Effects Well

  1. Apply effects selectively, since overusing animation across many elements on one page can feel distracting rather than polished.
  2. Test performance impact, particularly scroll-based effects, on lower-powered devices before finalizing.
  3. Preview across breakpoints, since some effects may need to be disabled on mobile where they don't translate as smoothly.
