In Bangladesh a marriage proposal is a family matter. Parents often search on behalf of a son or daughter, women are rightly careful about who sees their photos and phone number, and fake or careless profiles are what put people off online matrimony in the first place. A dating-app pattern — open profiles, instant chat — works against all of that. The audience also reads Bangla first and mostly browses on a phone, and much of it searches in phrases like “patro chai” and “patri chai” rather than “matrimony”.

The product is built around how a proposal actually moves in a family — create a profile, get verified, send interest, talk modestly, then introduce the families:

• Verification by email code, then a birth registration certificate checked by the team for a verified badge
• Profiles that can be managed by the person, a parent or guardian, a sibling or a relative — and that label is shown and searchable
• Contact by consent: messaging opens only after an interest is accepted, and phone numbers are shared only with permission
• Privacy controls over who sees photos and contact details, plus report and block on every profile
• Detailed search by age, division, district, education — including Alim and Qawmi tracks — occupation, height, marital status and verified-only
• A points system with an optional 24-hour profile boost, and a donation page that keeps the core service free

Every profile, photo and report is reviewed by a person before it goes live, and the guides, safety pages and community guidelines spell the rules out in plain language.

ShadiMaker was built with AI-assisted development. AI tools drafted much of the code and content, which is how one person shipped a product of this size. The parts that decide whether a matrimony site can be trusted stayed with me: the data model, who can see what and when, the verification and moderation flow, and reviewing every change before it shipped.

Fast drafting freed up time for the details that usually get cut on a solo build — a complete English version, a consent banner that keeps Google Analytics and the Meta Pixel off until the visitor agrees, and help pages for every feature.

Laravel renders every page on the server, so profiles and landing pages arrive as complete HTML on slow mobile connections. jQuery and Select2 handle the long search filters, with hand-written CSS and Google sign-in alongside email or mobile login:

Search is part of the build too: a Bangla homepage with an English mirror, landing pages for all eight divisions, pages for the phrases people actually search — patro chai, patri chai, online ghotok, biodata, second marriage, probashi patro-patri — Organization, WebSite, Service and FAQ structured data, and an llms.txt for AI search.
