Can I Bulk-Change WooCommerce Order Statuses?

How WooCommerce Bulk Status Changes Work

The Orders admin screen (whether using the classic post-based view or the HPOS orders table) includes standard WordPress-style bulk actions, with WooCommerce adding specific status-change options to that list — selecting several orders and choosing "Change status to processing," for instance, applies that transition to every selected order at once, firing the same hooks and triggers each individual status change would normally fire.

Things Worth Knowing

  • Bulk changes still trigger the normal status-change side effects (emails, stock adjustments) for every affected order, which is usually desired but worth being aware of if bulk-updating a large batch, since it could send a large volume of customer emails simultaneously.
  • Filtering the order list first (by date range, current status, or a search term) before selecting makes it much easier to safely target exactly the right set of orders for a bulk change.
  • Some third-party order-management plugins offer more advanced bulk actions beyond the default set, useful for more complex workflows.
  • There's no built-in bulk undo, so it's worth double-checking the selected orders and target status before applying a bulk change, especially on a large batch.

Running a Bulk Status Change

  1. Filter the orders list to the specific set you want to update, to avoid accidentally including unrelated orders.
  2. Select the relevant orders using the checkboxes.
  3. Choose the target status from the Bulk Actions dropdown and apply it.
  4. Spot-check a few updated orders afterward to confirm the change and any triggered emails behaved as expected.
