Elementor Global Widget vs. Saved Template

A global widget updating everywhere it's used when edited once, compared to a saved template copied independently to each page

How Each Actually Behaves

A global widget is created by converting a regular widget into a global one, after which every instance of it across the site references the same underlying content and styling. A saved template (saved as a page, section, or single widget template through Elementor's own template library) works differently: inserting it pastes a fresh copy of its content onto the page, fully independent from that point forward, and from the original template itself.

When to Use Each

  • Use a global widget for content that should always stay identical everywhere it appears — a site-wide call-to-action button, a contact info block, a promotional banner that changes together across every page.
  • Use a saved template for a reusable starting point that's expected to be customized slightly differently on each page it's used — a general "testimonial section" layout, for instance, populated with different content each time.
  • Mixing them up causes real problems — making something global that should vary per page means an unwanted edit updates it everywhere; using a plain template for something that should stay identical everywhere means updates have to be repeated manually on every page.
  • Global widgets can be converted back to a regular, page-specific widget if the linked behavior is no longer wanted for a specific instance.

Choosing and Setting Up the Right One

  1. Decide upfront whether the content should stay identical everywhere (global widget) or serve as a customizable starting point (template).
  2. Convert an existing widget to global via its right-click menu if shared, synced behavior is needed retroactively.
  3. Save reusable but independently editable layouts as templates through Elementor's save/insert template options instead.
