what is wordpress

WordPress is a renowned Content Management System (CMS), holding the top rank in the CMS hierarchy. Following it is Joomla. WordPress makes tasks such as installation, learning, and even coding (plugin development) much easier compared to other CMS platforms. Additionally, WordPress is lightweight, making it user-friendly even for those with no programming knowledge, enabling them to create fully-functional websites.

While WordPress is primarily known for blog creation, it offers an abundance of plugins that can be utilized to build e-commerce sites, forums, and more. In the WebCoachBD tutorials, you’ll find guides on creating a site (blog) with WordPress and managing it. There are also plentiful resources on WordPress theme development.

Before working with WordPress, you need to download the CMS, which is an open-source project available for free. Download the latest version from [Download Link].

As of December 1st, WordPress version 4.0.1 is the current version. We will be using this version for all tutorials on WebCoachBD.

By default, WordPress allows you to perform various tasks from the admin panel, such as default login, sign up, adding new menus/pages, and displaying the latest articles. Moreover, if there’s any specific functionality you need that is not available by default, WordPress offers a vast array of free plugins to explore.

Even if you are non-technical, you can still build your own site using WordPress (solely through the admin panel). However, if you have some knowledge of PHP (and HTML, CSS), you can engage in theme development and create a customized outlook for your site. This empowers you to design the appearance of your site according to your preferences.
